Hi there! I know I haven’t said much since creating this newsletter, but I’m so happy to see that so many people are interested in this project! It means a lot and all of the support over on Tumblr at @liopleurodean has really helped me make a lot of progress on Martian Messages.
Since creating the Substack in October, I have:
created a new email for people to contact me with questions
created a new Tumblr (@martian-messages) to spread news about the project
customized the Substack and Tumblr skins (that took a lot longer than you’d think)
converted the entire book from a pdf to an editable format (this probably accounted for about 50% of my time)
formatted the entire book to make it easier to sort different scenes into their time periods
categorized every scene by sols (Martian days)
converted all of the sols into real dates (the biggest step towards creating a live reaction newsletter)
Here are some things I still have to do:
reorganize all of the scenes into chronological order
wait for November 1st!
I know that it feels like a long ways away (and it is), but November 1st is Mission Day Zero so that’s when we’ll be starting. I’ll have about a week of prologue-type content before the real story begins.
When I started this project two and a half months ago, it seemed like a huge, daunting project (and it was) that would take forever (but it didn’t!) Thanks to all 100 of my readers, and thanks to everyone who’s shown enthusiasm over on Tumblr. I wouldn’t have made it this far without your support.
